Advisory on Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

“No ban on public gatherings, conferences”


On 5 March 2020, Malaysia Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country is in an early containment phase and that the situation related to Covid-19 is still under control. The government has yet to impose bans on public gatherings, including conferences in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.  (

No ban on public gatherings including conferences. The Malaysian Government, including its Health Ministry (MOH) and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), is closely monitoring the situation and has taken preventive actions and measures against the COVID-19 in accordance with World Health Organization guidelines to safeguard travelers’ well-being.

MOH has strengthen health screenings at all entry points into the country and is ready to respond swiftly if necessary.  Entry ban on those coming from Hubei, Jiangsu and Zhejiang province in China and Hokkaido in Japan; All Iranian, Italian and South Korean nationals will be barred from entering Malaysia following the Covid-19 outbreak in those respective countries effective from 13 March. Malaysians returning from these countries would also be quarantined for 14 days.

Informa Markets, the Organiser of ASEAN Super 8, we encourage all participants, particularly those who have recently travelled to China, Japan, Korea, Italy and Iran to monitor their health and to seek immediate medical attention should they feel unwell or show any related symptoms.

Informa Markets continues its work to ensure the event will be another success for all exhibitors and trade visitors. Informa Markets and Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) has implemented many measures to help to mitigate the spread of the virus and is continuing to add other actions regularly.  Measures in place include;

  • Increased cleaning and disinfection programme across all high-volume touchpoints, e.g. catering areas, surfaces, handrails, washrooms, entrances/exits, public touch-screens, etc.
  • Increased onsite medical support
  • Awareness campaign via online and onsite info-share and signage
  • Availability of sanitising and disinfection materials for public use as well as temperature screening at entrance
  • Awareness and training to all staff and associates on standard personal preventative measures, e.g. personal hygiene, frequency of use of sanitising/disinfection products, etc.
  • Advice to exhibitors on implementing effective cleaning and disinfection of stands, offices along with guidance on personal hygiene measures and common preventive behaviour

We will closely monitor the development of the issue and adhere to government’s instruction, make appropriate and necessary adjustment to the exhibition if necessary.
